Blogger vs. LiveJournal

Note to self and others: Blogger's nicer than LiveJournal.

I was telling Irina and a couple of others today that I want to start a blog to record my experiences with the class I'm taking (not teaching, *taking*) this summer, but I don't really want it to be out there for the whole world to see. On the other hand, I want it to look pretty (the way blogs just naturally look pretty to me!), and I want to be able to search through my own posts, make links to articles, etc. that could be useful to my coursework, and so on.

So I started a LiveJournal account, where you can make your postings totally private. Or you can make them readable only to people you designate. Cool. But way harder than Blogger to get started on.

And dammit, the templates just aren't as pretty.

Since I told a story about the 3-year-old...

...Here's one about the 6-year-old:

I'm on the phone with my friend. I hear Anna yelling "Mommm" outside. As a mom, I know that this particular yell isn't of the "I'm bleeding" variety, so I tell her to hold on. The yells ensue, however.

After my phone conversation, I go outside to see what the ruckus is about. She's upset because the button popped off her new blouse.

"Calm down. I'll just sew it back on."

She throws me a look of incredulity. Her response: "YOU can sew?!"

In a way, I'm disheartened. Obviously, she hasn't seen me take on the domestic task of re-attaching a button. She doesn't even think I can do it. Hmmph! I'll show her.

...As soon as I go out and buy a sewing kit.

My three-year-old is learning to tell lies!

So, the other day, my three-year-old, Kate, asked for a piece of bubble gum. I gave her a piece and said, "DON'T swallow it" (which is what she usually does). Two minutes later, she came to me empty-mouthed asking for more gum.

"Did you swallow that first piece?" I said.

"No, Mommy!" Kate replied.

"Then where is it?"

"Umm, nevermind." And she slinked out of the kitchen.

I had to laugh.
